Free Healthcare!

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Before you get too excited with the title of this post, just know that it is not what you think it is, but it is in fact free healthcare. Have I your attention now? Are you thinking it might have to do with subsidized healthcare through Obamacare, or at least at a low sliding scale rate? Well guess again, it has nothing to do with Obamacare, at least at this particular time. As it seems to always be a hot topic, I wanted to briefly shift gears here and share some powerful information by tapping into the wonderful resources in your own back yard.

America has many healthy alternatives to western medicine to help both heal and prevent from needing to see the doctor. As you read this, please do not get confused in thinking I am claiming there is never a need for medical attention or routine doctor visits. Especially if you are already regularly visiting a doctor or physician or have a life threatening disease (addiction(s), cancer, aids, diabetes, etc.) and have been referred to see a specialist (Huntsman Cancer Institute, Utah Drug Rehab, Mount Sinai Hospital, Endocrinologists and Dialysis, etc.). Think of this advice as more of a supplement alternative that is guaranteed to enhance and add extra value to your overall physical and mental health.

Now that I have completely built up the suspense, (at least I hope I have not lost your interest yet?) are you ready to learn of my healthcare alternative? It is not new but it is always exciting. Here I go. All you have to do is a few things. One, be active in nature. You have many natural resources and activities that involves such places like the mountains, ocean or what have you. You can surf, boogie board, fish, bike, walk, skate, drive scenic routes, paddle board, the list goes on and on as I am sure you get the point.

Addiction

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

In my November post, I mentioned my cousin and her oldest son who is actively using drugs daily.  He is trying to cope with the death of his biological father as well as his mother’s recent divorce from his step-father.  Because of his lack of knowledge and experience he has turned to drugs and acting out to medicate his pain and suffering.  In the process, he has become addicted to drugs.

My cousin had her son placed in a locked down juvenile residential treatment facility.  In this facility, he was introduced to the 12 step program.  This program has really helped my cousin’s son as well as many other individuals.  Do you know someone with a substance abuse problem?  If you do, I would recommend a 12 step program to help them in their healing of addiction.

What is addiction?  Addiction can be drug, food or activity related (shopping,  gambling, pornography or sex).  If it interferes with one’s responsibilities, then it will most likely cause problems for the person as well as others.  Someone abusing drugs for example, may not realize that their behavior is out of control until it’s too late.

Why do people turn to drugs, shopping or sex?  As in my cousin’s son’s case he was acting out and turning to drugs because of the stressors in his life.  He felt out of control in his life, like everything was falling a part.  The only thing he could control was his own choices and behavior.  So he turned to something he could control, drugs and acting out.

What can we learn from this?  We can learn that we need to be able to recognize the stressors in our life and learn to cope with those stressors when they present themselves in our lives.  Instead of heading to the kitchen when we feel stressed and munching on whatever is in the cupboards, we could exercise or clean the house.  The cause of addiction is not necessarily what happens because a person is looking for pleasure.  They are trying to mask the pain and suffering like my cousin’s son.

Detailed Protective Factors!

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

When it comes to our health, we have usually either only two things (at least in this particular situation). Risk factors or protective factors. Risk factors can be a number of unhealthy things. Such as behaviors, environments and even household items. So in other words, if you have really poor allergies or are extremely subject to the cold, then you will want to have really sturdy and reliable vinyl windows installed in to your home to not let heat escape and to keep your home full of clean air without leaking various debris, etc. This will not only help on your overall health, but it will also help you have a better regular home temperature, which is a great benefit if you are older and therefore more prone to getting cold easier. You will also save on your monthly bills if you get an efficient enough glass for your windows.

A small risk factor detail would be to hold on to your old pair of tennis shoes with really low traction. The same would go for your car tires. However, most would agree it is important to replace old tires when the tread gets so low, as it is a matter of life or death with a blown tire, etc. What is not being taken into consideration here is the fact that if you fall and break a bone you can be temporarily paralyzed for a few weeks to months too. It might not be as life threatening to fall, but then again it very well could be depending on your age or the degree of the fall. Either way, a fall can become a huge setback with excessive medical bills which could be avoided with newer shoes. So go ahead and treat yourself to a new pair once you feel your tread is dangerously worn out.

The moral of the story here is simple. Be more open and aware for risk factors that can sneak up on you, and equally look for opportunities to better protect your health and future. It is a blessing to have such amazing health care access at our finger tips, but it is also really amazing to have many years accident-free away from the emergency room. Do not just live your life blindly waiting for the next injury to happen. Rather, look around, be cautious, and see what different things you can do to make your life a little bit safer. If you have any questions or want to add comment, please feel free to do so or to email me privately.

True Thanksgiving!

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

I was wanting to check in with everybody and ask what is it that you are truly grateful for? I for one will always have a huge list once I am confronted about this question and given some time to think about all the many things I am grateful for. This is precisely why I am asking you this question. To give you the time and opportunity to stop and appreciate all the many blessings in your life that you may even have forgot or been neglecting for many years.

I for one think first of family. I don’t know what I will do without them. They are truly what makes life worth it! I might be feeling this way due to a close relative going through some troubling times right now, or maybe just because I truly think this is my primary first go to when it comes to gratefulness. What is going on with my cousin is this.

She is a single mother of three and her oldest son is 16 who is not in a very good spot in life right now. He is addicted to psychedelic and psychoactive stimulants (Marijuana, LSD, Alcohol, Mushrooms, etc.). He is actively using daily and is really struggling with the death of his biological father as well as his mother recently getting divorced and he now being separated from his step-father. He has no healthy coping mechanism set in place and has no emotional regulatory systems established so therefore he has resorted to drugs and acting out.

When his mother asked him to put his cell phone down and he would not listen she went to take it from him and he became violent and would not let go of the phone and started twisting the phone and accidentally broke her fingers. He seems to be out of control at the moment and his mother is at a lost as to what to do. After some research, she resolved to have him placed into a locked down juvenile residential treatment facility. She is truly at a loss for words and feels nauseous about it all, especially so close to the Thanksgiving Holiday! She knows she made the right choice but is sick to her stomach and just wants her baby boy back.

With stories like this, you can see just how easy it is to appreciate family more and even the subtle intricacies within them. Such as the fact your child is not on drugs, Your child is obedient. Your child loves to spend time with you and so on and so on. Hopefully this helps you all appreciate some of the finer things in life? I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving Holiday! Please leave a comment if you feel so inclined to do so.

Flu shots

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

How many of you out there get your flu shot?  Do you get it once in awhile or are you someone who gets it faithfully every year?  My mom and sister are always telling me that if you get your flu shot every year it will help each and every year to build up your immunity towards the flu going around.  The more strains of flu you have in your system the more protected you will be in the long run, every year from getting the flu.  My mom and sister quote the research and because my mom is a believer in the flu shot, I’ve gotten it every year since I was a teenager.

My wife on the other hand, gets sick every time she has gotten the flu shot in the past and because of this she refuses to get it any more.  She would rather just take the chance and get the flu once during the flu season than to purposefully inject herself with the flu.  How many of you are on the same side of the fence as my wife?  My mom hates that my wife will not get the flu shot, but such is the life.

Every year, me and my three kids go and get the flu shot without my wife.  Inevitably though, because our two oldest kids are in school they get sick every year.  Sometimes more than once a year, during the school year, my kids get sick to the point where they are running a fever and they have to stay home from school.  I come from a family of school teachers and so I know better than to send my kids to school when they are running a fever.  I hate that my kids get sick during the school year but what do you do as a parent?  Send them to public school or homeschool them?  Well, I choose to send my kids to school even though they get sick every year and I hate to see them get sick.  I absolutely hate to see my kids miserably sick.

My kids recently had croup.  In fact, my youngest two had to go to the doctor and get medication.  When my wife took them to the doctor, the nurse said that strep had been going around all summer and never stopped, even into the Fall.  It’s still going around.  I have never had strep, but my wife gets it every year.  I was hoping that my kids followed in my footsteps and were not susceptible to getting strep and was grateful to find out that they didn’t have strep.  Not that croup is fun either, but I’d hate for them to get strep every year like my wife.

So, will you or will you not get your flu shot this year?  I will be taking my kids with me to get ours any day now.  I just have to schedule the appointment or call the pharmacy to make sure they have the mist for my young kids who don’t want to get a shot.  I’m grateful they offer the mist for everyone!  Go and get your flu shot!

Anti-occidental healthcare!

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

I think an important part of healthcare is to actually eliminate the need for constantly thinking about insurance and to realize there are many other ways to approach healthcare in a more holistic manner. What I mean by this is that it is important to figure out ways to avoid the need for medical attention. When you think about it, there are actually thousands of different ways to heal and/or keep the mind and body happy and whole. Unfortunately, these practices are considered unorthodox as “big pharma” has their grasp on mainstream society and brainwashed us into thinking a pill will solve all of our problems.

Some of the more natural ways to heal and are actually much less expensive and yet much more rewarding are as follows. Take yoga for instance, you could join a gym and attend free yoga classes as well as participate int he other classes they offer which are quite a few. To name a few; swimming, aerobics, spinning, weight lifting, dance, running, basketball, volleyball, racket ball, badminton, ping pong, rock climbing, bouldering, etc. You could always go swimming on your own at a friends house as socialization is very healthy for your mental health. Go hiking, biking, camping, canoeing, 4-wheelin’, dirt biking, boating, etc.

Another really cheap (in fact free) method to help the entire mind, body and soul is to meditate. This has been researched and has shown to work wonders for mankind. If you do not believe me, all you have to do is a really quick test to see for yourself. It is a bit of a stretch from actual meditation but is still a major part of meditation in that you will be doing a short breathing exercise. In fact to see immediate results, all you have to do is take a measly 120 seconds out of your busy day. Here is the exercise, I want to to find a quiet and comfortable place where you can sit down and relax.

Once you find a place, I want you to check your pulse and figure out how many beats per minute your heart is pumping at. Once you have your count, sit down with your bottom and small of your back firmly pressed against the back of the chair. Close your eyes and with both of your feet firmly pressed on the ground as well as your arms on the arm rests or the top of your knees or legs, take some slow deep cleansing breaths. Meaning, in through the nose for 5 seconds, and then hold your breath for another 5 seconds, and then release your breath for a total of 5 seconds. As you are breathing for the entire 2 minutes (120 seconds) feel your arms becoming very heavy and your bottom and feet sinking in to the ground. Also feel the weightlessness you have everywhere else throughout your body. Do this the entire time and then check your heartbeat pulse immediately after the exercise.

Chances are your heartbeat lowered and you feel much more calmer and relaxed with little to no stress. If your heartbeat is the same or raises; this could be to not surrendering to the process and just letting go. I also believe you may become anxious about the concept of letting go which could elevate your heart rate as well. Either way with a little practice, you could really start to unwind and have a much happier, healthier and fulfilling life making your trips to the doctor much less frequent and even non existent if you are able to heal the mind body and soul in a more natural manner. If you have anything else to add to this post, please feel free to do so as I would welcome any new ideas or concepts to discuss further. I also welcome a good debate so do not worry about hurting my feelings if you disagree with what I have shared.

Obamacare hanging by a thread!

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

The House within the United States Congress was recently granted due cause to sue the Obama Whitehouse Administration on the grounds that they spent billions of US tax dollars without the express written budget approval of the House. In other words, the Obama Administration was blatant in their act of executive over-reach. This news was quite a surprise as it seems “we the people” have become brainwashed and used to over-reach if that is what the politically correct term for being screwed over is called these days?

I am going to disengage at this point and not take one side or another. I believe I have already disclosed just how I feel about Obamacare and the current Whitehouse Administration. At the risk of losing potential readers or offending someone accidentally, I will change the subject and bring it home to this point. I brought this up not to rub it in the face of all Democrats or lovers of Obama. Rather, I wanted to bring it to everyone’s attention that after all the fussing and fighting centered around Obamacare or the Health Care Reform Act we might not have it for too much longer.

This is an exciting and bizarre moment in health care history. Some said it was an amazing bill to finally get passed and that many Americans were able to finally afford healthcare and get the medical attention they deserve and want. On the other side of the coin, many were upset that our hard earned tax dollars are being foolishly spent and even though you add a huge influx of medical needs that are not covered through insurance, you are now having to deal with a shortage of actual medical providers albeit thousands of new patients are now added to their workload.

This is an exciting and awkward time for Americans and their health insurance. I say this because if you are considering on obtaining some health insurance I don’t quite know how to best advice you in that I could say you might want to wait until the dust settles before obtaining any. However, at the same time I could conversely advise you to quickly get insurance so you are grandfathered in and do not have to deal with any unforeseen issues. So hopefully this helps you and does not create more confusion? Feel free to communicate with us if you need any further clarification and/or have any questions or comments to offer.

What really is the best insurance to buy?

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Just as the title asks, knowing what insurance to get is extremely difficult indeed. There really are so many different plans to choose from with so many variations. You could research yourself and do your best to make sense of it all, however you may become even more confused if you do it alone and do not rally understand the terms and policies. You could call the actual health care provider, and risk being up-sold on your potential policy. One of the only safest ways to ensure you are fully educated and making the best possible decision for the most accommodating health insurance policy is to speak to multiple insurance brokers and ask very detailed questions. Most people make the mistake of only calling up one broker and end up trusting them too much.

This approach has the potential for disaster in that they could try to sell you the policy that gets them the most amount of commission available; instead of finding what actually will work the best for you and your family. You really do need to be careful about thinking you have found the best healthcare policy mainly due to the price alone. You just might end up purchasing a plan with an extremely high deductible or maximum out of pocket. Some plans do not even cover anything until you have paid at least ten-thousand ($10,000) out-of-pocket before you receive any type of benefit at all.

That hardly seems fair if you ask me. Why would anyone sign up for a policy like that if they have to pay $500-$1,000 per month to not be covered? The answer is simple, if they were properly educated they never would. You truly do get what you pay for in life and so in closing I would highly recommend, one, you take the time to research all of the different possibilities. Two, you consider your families need for coverage as far as how active are they? What type of coverage will you actually need instead of what the broker is trying to sell you on. Simple rule is that you do not want to under insure your family or over insure. Finding that balance can be done with the right broker, so don’t be afraid to shop around. Three and lastly, don’t be afraid to spend a little bit more than you wanted if you want a plan that actually will protect and never get activated until you pay out the nose in the first place. The market healthcare place through the federal government will usually help you save a lot on monthly insurance deductibles based on your salary income.

What do you think of my brand new site?

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

I am so happy to announce my newest website and hope I have the discipline to stick with it this time around and not get too busy like I have in the past. I also hope everyone is able to find me back on the internet again. It has been a while and I think I got too sloppy in keeping track of everyone. I wish I would have followed the advice I received regarding documenting email and other contact information so I could send one or two giant email blasts explaining my current transition. I might switch up the theme too, so do not get confused as I was more focused on getting up and running more so than anything else.

I plan on providing you all with some much needed consulting, but please be advised that I too am a busy individual and cannot guarantee that I will be able to respond at he speed you might prefer. At the same time, I am very aware of the strict deadlines insurance companies give on purpose to make you lose out on privileges and benefits, so I will do my best to help you help yourself as soon as humanly possible.

As mentioned throughout this website, I want to help further educate you all on some different things, I thought I would set the bar high by briefly talking about a particular type of health insurance right out of the gate. I wanted to show the value I bring to the table upfront instead of slowly working my way up to it. Having said that, I don’t know how many of you know what an EPO is and what is provides. I think this type of plans can be more expensive than most other plans, but after you watch the video you will see why. If you can afford an EPO health insurance policy, I would highly recommend it as it provides the most flexibility and options for you and your family or loved ones.

Here is a quick video that explains a little bit more on what exactly an EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization) is and what the benefits are for being a part of one:
